Riding My Motorcycle And Christmas Shopping!

motorcycle touring, motorcycle travel, motorcycle ride, motorcycle trip, motorcycle riding, motorcycle road trips, TravelRiding my motorcycle and Christmas shopping… You just can’t beat that. I am lucky to live here in central Texas. We never put our bikes away for winter. Yes, we can have some really cold and nasty winter weather but in a day or two it will be clear skies with temperatures ranging from the 40’s to the 80’s.

Monday was one of those days and the Wing was feeling a bit neglected and I just needed to get out and ride. And since I needed to do some Christmas shopping I decided to combine the two. Janet had looked at a few things and I decided to go get them for her stocking by the longest scenic route I could find.

Christmas Shopping Route

It was a bit cool but perfect riding weather. I like cool better than hot any day. You can dress for cool but you can’t ride naked when it is blistering hot… The ride was just about 111 miles, round trip. I set the radio to Magic 95.5 and listened to Christmas music during the ride. Nothing better to clear your mind than riding listening to Christmas music. It just helps put you into the Christmas spirit.

It was a great ride and I can check off one more thing off my Christmas gift list.

Dogs Who Ride Motorcycles

Dogs who ride motorcycles seem to be everywhere. The other day I saw this video about dogs riding in side cars. It made me think back over the years about all the dogs I’ve seen riding not only in sidecars but on the motorcycle either behind or in front of the rider. I’ve seen one small dog riding in a leather saddlebag and another in a backpack. The dogs have been all sizes and breeds and they all seemed to enjoy the ride. My brother’s dog would get excited every time he would start his 4 wheeler. It loved to ride, and why not? It seems like these dogs were bred to ride. I googled “dogs riding motorcycles” and got over 3 million results. There were pictures, videos, articles, dog carriers and apparel… helmets, goggles, jackets etc…

I like this video a lot because this friendly bulldogs loves to wave to other bikers as they pass.

This video is a compilation of more dogs riding in every way you can imagine…

I have been following this blog about Ara and his dog Spirit for some time. He travels around with his dog in the sidecar. It is a story about life, sadness and overcoming… Click the image below to go to Ara’s blog…

Several years ago a girl I worked with told me about a motorcycle trip she took with her boyfriend from the east coast to the west coast.  She took her cat. She said she would never do that again. I can only imagine…. I have noticed you never see riders riding with their cat.

Our Favorite Place To Ride Our Motorcycle In Texas

Our favorite place to ride our motorcycle in Texas, hands down, is Big Bend National Park. Big Bend is a park rugged with geographical contrasts. Big Bend is comprised of 1,252 square miles of land with miles and miles of scenic motorcycle roads. Some of the geography includes the Rio Grande River, the Chihuahuan Desert, the peaks of the Chisos Mountains, the cool climate of the Chisos Basin and the limestone outcrops of Persimmon Gap and Boquillas Canyon. There are scenic photo opportunities at every turn. We have taken many beautiful photograph while there. There is one particular picture Janet took that we like the best. Every time we see it we would sometimes comment that it would make a great painting. The picture is of Yucca at Chisos Basin with Mt. Casa Grande in background.

Janet took the comment about the picture  to heart. Janet had an artist friend (Floyd Riley) do a painting from the picture. The painting turned out very well and was all we had hoped it would be. A special thanks to Floyd for a great job.
